About the Author

I am a writer who does other things well, too. Literature and creative writing have been my passion and focus of study, at Washington College and later through NYU’s Writers Workshop in Paris MFA program. I’ve also studied jazz piano, t’ai chi, and still take dance classes twice a week.

As an academic, I have taught and tutored writers ages six to sixty. I also enjoy working with non-native English speakers, since I get to re-learn my own language and sometimes a bit of another’s. While tutoring at the Maryland Institute College of Art, I helped students form and polish catalogue entries, artist statements, theses, cover letters, film scripts, and poems.

I’ve written short stories, flash fiction, poetry, book reviews, and essays, some of which have survived the shifting sands of time/internet archival. Check out a few samples on my Published FictionNonfiction, and Writing Samples pages.

Watch me (1:25) speak about a short story that won me first place in the F. Scott Fitzgerald Literary Festival Short Story Contest  to a distinguished crowd at Rockville City Hall on October 18th, 2014.
